iPhone 5c just a Colourful Update of the iPhone 5

In what was an unusual twist for an Apple launch, a second iPhone was unveiled alongside the 5s with the Cupertino-based firm also unveiling the 5c to the world. Having being touted as an attempt towards the budget market before the launch, the iPhone 5c deceived many tech fans by not being that cheap but also lacking much in the way of new features rather than a change in look.

iPhone 5c – Is there any difference?

Understandably, there was a bit of anticipation as to what the iPhone 5c might contain different from its siblings and the most notable difference is notable right from the start.

The body of the iPhone 5c comes in a host of difference colours including green, yellow, blue, pink and white with the entire casing being made out of one piece aside from the front of the phone. Alongside that, the casing is made out of polycarbonate rather than metal or plastic making it a bit sturdier but lighter to carry around.

iPhone 5c Specs and Features

There are also some slight little tweaks that have been brought over from the 5s too as the 5c will also benefit from the reworked 8MP iSight camera and the added 4G LTE support that were shown off earlier in the day.

Sticking with the same formula

Aside from the subtle changes, the 5c boasts many of the specs and features that were seen this time last year on the launch of the iPhone 5. For example, the 5c maintains the same 4 inch Retina Display that impressed audiences a year ago.

Blue Apple iPhone 5c

On top of that, many of the internal components remain the same with the system being powered by Apple’s A6 processor as well as containing other features such as Bluetooth 4.0 and a dual band Wi-Fi connection.

The Price

The iPhone 5C was rumoured to be the “cheaper” iPhone, the handset to take Apple to the masses, to be honest I never believed it would be!

While it is not as expensive as the iPhone 5s, at £469 ($549) sim-free (no network) with 16GB of storage and £549 ($649) for the 32GB version, this is no cheap Smartphone. The 5C will probably cost a lot less when bought on a lengthy pay monthly contract, but compared with to the competition, Apple’s most colourful iPhone is still an expensive choice.

Introducing iPhone 5c – For the colourful

Does it have a purpose?

Its colourful facade and automatic inclusion of iOS 7 will certainly win some people over when the phone launches on September 20th even if much of the phone is the same as its predecessor.

But with the iPhone 5s being a more powerful model and the iPhone 5 being a cheaper option, the iPhone 5c could be a phone that could get stuck well and truly in the middle of no man’s land and forgotten about in a moment’s heartbeat.
